ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A new American Cancer Society study finds Missouri is falling short on cancer-fighting policies.
Local American Cancer Society spokesperson Misty Snodgrass says Missouri didn?t score so well on this latest report card.
?We?ve only met one of our seven benchmarks and that was that we have a colorectal coverage program through insurance,? Snodgrass said. ?But when it comes to tabacco and other preventative cares, we are coming very very short?
Snodgrass is calling on Missouri voters to approve a 72 cent increase in the state?s tobacco tax this November. The current tax stands at 17 cents?a pack, the lowest in the nation.
Illinois, meanwhile, met 5 of the 7 American Cancer Society benchmarks this year.
